ENERGY EFFICIENT DESIGNS OF FURNACES FOR GRAPHING ELECTRODE PRODUCTS


Purpose of the development: The development is intended for graphitization of large electrode blanks for ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy in steelmaking electric arc furnaces, aluminum and magnesium electrolyzers.

Recommended application field: Production of electrode products and other graphitized products in ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy.

Advantages over analogues: The developed energy-efficient designs and operating procedures for Kastner furnaces for graphitizing large-sized electrode blanks correspond to analogues of the world's leading manufacturers of carbon-graphite products - SGL Carbon, MERSEN, GrafTech, TokaiCarbon - have no analogues in Ukraine and provide high-quality electrode products subject to increased productivity and reduced specific energy consumption .

The development stage readiness: Ready for application

Technical and economic effect: The technology of graphitization of electrode products in Kastner furnaces in comparison with Acheson furnaces makes it possible to achieve a significant reduction in specific energy costs by 20-25% and the duration of the graphitization process, which determines their demand on the market.

Description of the development:

Ukrainian University has developed energy-efficient designs and operating procedures for Kastner furnaces for graphitizing large electrode blanks. A method for graphitizing carbon products, in which carbon electrodes are loaded into an electric furnace, current is supplied, the billets are indirectly heated through the transfer, and they are held at a graphitization temperature, characterized in that they predict the moment of power cut for each temperature interval so that the products get a given degree of graphitization, which will reduce energy costs.
