Technology has been developed for obtaining diamond-like carbonic (DLC) coatinigs on castings and dies for plastic parts production. DLC-coating are chemically inert and react with no plastics khown, which prevents sticking of plastics to the surface of molds and dies, and ensures the article smooth surface. Combined positive effect is achieved by application of DLC-coatings on moving friction parts of molds that can not be lubricated by liquid lubricators for reasons related to plastics technology. In this case the coating's antifriction properties (due to low dry friction factor) are engaged, along with their high protective and wear-resistant qualities. The coatings are applied on costings and dies made of tool steel by pulse vacuum arc-cathode plating. They efficiently replace galvanic chrome-nickel coatings and ensure manifold inscrease in molds' and dies' life span.
