Purpose of the development: Horizontal and angled blastholes drilling during mining and drilling-blasting operations in rocks with the rigidity factor of 6...20 (according to Protodyakonov scale).

Advantages over analogues: Advantages of the modernized rock drill in comparison with analogues are the increased drilling rate during mountain and building operations, noise and vibration reduction, ingrease in service life of the rockdestruction tool and rock drill units. The invention has been received a number of gold and silver medals of various international exhibitions and salons.

Description of the development:

The device is a result of modernization of the batch produced standard 54 type rock drill. The rock drill operation is based on a "rattling" effect, i.e. shock impulse transmission from the piston to the rod due to alternate motion of the head (between the piston and the rod). Rock destruction intensification is achieved due to creation of a shock impulse consisting of a family of subimpulses of small duration and big amplitude. Head "rattling" enables to increase drilling rate more than 1,5 times in rocks with a complicated structure due to higher efficiency of the impact between the piston and the rod, weakening of the rocks owing to impact of high-frequency shock impulses and also the use of the head as a damper of waves reflected from rocks.
