PLASMA TREATMENT OF MEDICAL-BIOLOGICAL WASTE
Purpose of the development:
To be used in hospitals, research laboratories, and medical-biological industries. As a portable version - servicing small medical establishments.
Recommended application field:
Medicine.
Technical characteristic:
Features:
- Power, kW 200;
- Capacity by treated
waste, kg/h 200;
- Furnace temperature, K 1800-2000.
Advantages over analogues:
Possibility to process a wide of medical-biological waste, its complete disinfection. Elimination of the possibility of generation and preservation of toxic components and biological forms in the gas medium; possible production of low-leaching silicate materials from the mineral substances; substantial reduction in the volume and mass of the treated waste; possibility to install the apparatus directly on raste production sites, possibility to build a mobile apparatus.
The development stage readiness:
Tested experimental exploitation order
Description of the development:
() The apparatus the plasma treatment of medical-biological wastes incorporates a burning and afterburning chambers, a gas cleaning system, and power supply systems. The primary element of plasma apparatuses for waste treatment is an electric-arc plasma generator that creates thermal plasma of any gases with the temperatureof over 5000K. Any complex organic and inorganic compounds are totally decomposed at this temperature to atoms and ions. The main specific feature of the plasma technology consists in substantial intensification of the waste destruction process. As a result, using oxygen to decompose the waste becomes actually unnecessary. A temperature increase in the reaction zone of the apparatus to 1800-2000K enables to enhance the fusion of ash residue and completely eliminate the possibility of preservation or generation in the gas phase of toxic components or biologocal forms.
