Purpose of the development: Emergency spills elimination, collection of oil and petroleum products from water and soil surface. Recultivation of lands contaminated with oil.

Technical characteristic: The oil capatity value by crude oil iu is 3-5 g/g. At treatment by special modifiers the peat sorbents oil capacity can be increased. The oil absorption properties of the peat-based materials: buoyancy in the oil-saterated state: from 2 to10 days due to low value of water absorption (70-110%). The cost-effective expenditure in conditions of application on emergency spolls: at oil film thickness 0,1 cm and ambient temperature 12-15°C it is 0,2-0,3 kg/m[2]. Simplicity of application and collection: manual using auxiliary mechanical devices, with the use of special pressuring and sucking-in devices, and from aviation tehnique. It is non-toxic, which excludes the need for special protection means for the service personnel.

Advantages over analogues: The natural objects cleaning process is carried out cluring a short terms period of time by the biosphere-compatible cycle.

"ekofort" is a highly effective sorption material based on peat - an ecologically safe natural raw material, to be used for elimination of emergency oil and petroleum products spills. The peatbased can collect spilled oil and petroleum products from any surface and to hold them, preventing their repaated spreading. The sorbents production and application, as well as utilization of the spent materials do not involve repeated pollution of the environment. Low cost caused by simplicity of the sorbents technology, and by orientation to the use of accessible, extensive and repewable raw materials. At proper storage conditions the sorbents service life is three years. The oil-saturated sorbents utilization is done ei ther by combustion or by the method of soil composting.
